DAY ONE — THE CITY, SLOWLY
9:00 — Begin behind the walls
Marrakech makes more sense once you stop trying to see all of it. Start slowly, ideally from somewhere inside the medina, and allow the first morning to be less about landmarks and more about getting your bearings.
Find breakfast somewhere quiet, sit longer than necessary and pay attention to the shift between the calm of a courtyard and the movement waiting outside.
For a city stay, IZZA Marrakech is one of the places we would return to. Art, gardens, architecture and hospitality come together behind the walls of the medina, giving you somewhere characterful to retreat to between the city’s louder moments.
11:00 — Jardin Majorelle & Musée Yves Saint Laurent
Visit Jardin Majorelle earlier rather than later. The garden is one of Marrakech’s most photographed places, but it is the relationship between colour, planting and architecture that makes it worth seeing.
Pair it with the nearby Musée Yves Saint Laurent rather than treating them as separate stops.
13:30 — A long lunch
Marrakech rewards the long lunch.
Rather than planning every hour, choose somewhere beautiful enough that you don’t mind staying beyond the original reservation. The city is at its best when food becomes part of the rhythm rather than simply a stop between attractions.
15:30 — Return to the medina
Spend the afternoon walking without trying to conquer the souks.
Look beyond the obvious souvenirs: lighting, ceramics, metalwork, textiles, carved timber and the smaller workshops are where Marrakech’s relationship with craft becomes much more interesting.
The best finds often appear once you leave the busiest route.
18:30 — Reset
Go back to the hotel.
Shower. Sit by the pool. Have a drink. Do absolutely nothing for an hour.
Trying to fill every minute is the quickest way to miss Marrakech.
20:30 — Dinner
Choose somewhere that feels like an occasion.
We like evenings in Marrakech to contrast with the day: slower lighting, a courtyard or garden, good music and somewhere you are happy to remain after dinner.
DAY TWO — LOOK CLOSER
9:30 — A slower morning
Start later.
The second day should feel less like sightseeing and more like understanding the city.
Take breakfast somewhere calm and walk without immediately opening a map.
Marrakech is full of small moments that disappear when you’re constantly navigating towards the next saved location.
11:00 — Architecture, objects and interiors
Use the late morning for the places that reveal how Marrakech thinks about space.
Courtyards, gardens, riads, tiled interiors and small design stores tell you far more about the city than another checklist of monuments.
Look at how rooms handle heat and light. How planting becomes architecture. How colour changes between outside and inside.
This is the Marrakech we find most interesting.
13:30 — Lunch somewhere worth staying
Again: don't rush it.
One of the pleasures of Marrakech is allowing lunch to stretch into the afternoon.
16:00 — One last wander
Return to whichever part of the city you felt you rushed on the first day.
Buy the object you kept thinking about.
Have mint tea.
Sit somewhere with absolutely no objective.
There is value in ending a trip without squeezing in one final attraction.
19:30 — The final evening
For the last night, choose atmosphere over novelty.
Marrakech has no shortage of dramatic restaurants, rooftops and nightlife, but the places we remember tend to be the ones that know when not to perform.
Good light. Good food. Good company.
Enough.
